Overview

What is Udyam Registration?

Udyam Registration is India's official online portal launched by the Government of India in July 2020 for registering and classifying Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Upon successful registration, each enterprise receives a unique 19-digit Udyam Registration Number (URN) and a government-issued digital certificate.

The certificate is lifetime valid — no renewal required — and unlocks a comprehensive suite of government subsidies, priority lending, tax benefits, and MSME schemes.

ℹ️
Official Portal

Udyam Registration is processed exclusively at udyamregistration.gov.in. This site provides assisted guidance only. The government charges zero fees.

Eligibility Criteria

Who Should Register? (2026 MSME Limits)

All manufacturing and service enterprises meeting the composite investment and turnover thresholds are eligible. The limits effective from June 26, 2020 as per Gazette Notification S.O. 2119(E) are:

Category Investment in Plant & Machinery Annual Turnover
Micro ≤ ₹1 Crore ≤ ₹5 Crore
Small ≤ ₹10 Crore ≤ ₹50 Crore
Medium ≤ ₹50 Crore ≤ ₹250 Crore

Both criteria must be satisfied simultaneously. If either threshold is exceeded, the enterprise is reclassified to the next category. Traders, retailers, and wholesalers are also eligible.

Step-by-Step Process

How to Apply for Udyam Registration (2026)

Registration is entirely online via a single-window portal. No physical documents are required — all data is self-declared and cross-verified automatically via PAN and GST databases.

  1. Visit the Udyam Portal: Go to udyamregistration.gov.in and click "For New Entrepreneurs."
  2. Aadhaar Verification: Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar and validate via OTP on your Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
  3. Enterprise Details: Fill in business name, PAN, GSTIN, organisation type, address, bank account, investment, and employee count.
  4. Auto-Verification: The system cross-verifies PAN and GSTIN with Income Tax and GST databases in real time.
  5. Submit & Download Certificate: On successful submission, your URN is generated and the Udyam Certificate with QR code is available for immediate download.
Registration is completely free

The government does not charge any fee. Avoid third-party portals or agents asking for payment. Your URN is permanent — no renewal needed unless your enterprise outgrows MSME limits.

Required Documents

Documents Required for Udyam Registration

Udyam follows a document-less approach — all details are self-declared and government-verified. Keep the following ready:

  • Aadhaar Card — Proprietor/Partner/Karta/Authorised Signatory (must have OTP-linked mobile).
  • PAN Card — Entity PAN for Companies/LLPs; Proprietor PAN for individuals.
  • GSTIN — Required if GST-registered. Enter "NA" if not applicable.
  • Bank Account Details — Account number and IFSC code for cross-verification.
  • Business Information — Commencement date, number of employees, main activity NIC code, and investment amount.
⚠️
Data Accuracy Is Critical

The portal automatically fetches turnover and investment data from ITR/GST returns. Discrepancies between declared and actual data may lead to registration suspension. Ensure all returns are filed and accurate.

🚨
Mandatory Update Deadline: April 21, 2025

Frequently Asked Questions

Any manufacturing or service business meeting the MSME thresholds (micro: invest ≤₹1Cr & turnover ≤₹5Cr; small: ≤₹10Cr & ≤₹50Cr; medium: ≤₹50Cr & ≤₹250Cr) should register — including shops, clinics, factories, IT firms, consultants, and traders. All existing Udyog Aadhaar holders were required to migrate by March 2021.
Yes. The government's Udyam portal charges zero fees. You only need an Aadhaar (with linked mobile), PAN, and GSTIN if applicable. Beware of fraudulent portals or consultants charging for a process that is entirely free.
Udyam registration is lifetime valid. No annual renewal is required. However, you must update your details whenever turnover or investment figures change, or per government compliance deadlines (e.g., April 2025), else benefits may be suspended.
GSTIN is required only if your business is registered under GST. If your turnover is below the GST threshold (₹40 lakh for goods / ₹20 lakh for services), enter "NA" in the GSTIN field. If your turnover exceeds the GST limit, GST registration is legally mandatory and must be provided.
The URN is a unique 19-digit alphanumeric identifier assigned to each registered enterprise (format: UDYAM-XX-00-0000000). It is printed on your Udyam Certificate along with a QR code and serves as your permanent MSME identity for accessing all government schemes and benefits.
No. Udyam registration is per-PAN. One PAN = one URN. If you have separate businesses with their own PANs, each registers separately. Attempting multiple registrations under the same PAN is prohibited and may result in cancellation of all associated registrations.
Intentional misrepresentation in registration can attract fines under the MSMED Act (₹1,000 for first offense; ₹1,000–₹10,000 for subsequent). Failing to update by prescribed deadlines suspends all MSME benefits. Buyers delaying payments beyond 45 days lose the tax deduction on those amounts (from April 2024).
Visit udyamregistration.gov.in → "Print/Verify Udyam Registration" → Enter your 19-digit URN and CAPTCHA → Your enterprise name, URN, and current Active/Suspended status will be displayed. You can reprint the certificate at any time using your URN and OTP.
