Overview

What is Udyam Re-Registration?

Udyam Re-Registration is the process of migrating an existing MSME certificate from the old Udyog Aadhaar Memorandum (UAM) or EM-Part II scheme to India's new Udyam portal (launched July 2020). The Udyam portal replaced all older MSME registration systems as the single, authoritative platform for MSME identity and benefits.

For example, all Udyog Aadhaar holders were originally required to migrate by March 31, 2021. This deadline was extended to December 31, 2021 — and compliance verification has been ongoing since. Keeping your Udyam certificate active is critical for access to government loans, subsidies, and legal protections under the MSMED Act.

🚨
Action Required — April 21, 2025 Deadline

All registered MSMEs must update/verify their Udyam certificate by April 21, 2025. Non-compliance results in suspension of MSME status and all associated benefits.

Eligibility

Who Needs to Re-Register? (And Why)

  • UAM / Udyog Aadhaar Holders: Any enterprise registered under the old Udyog Aadhaar Memorandum before July 1, 2020 must migrate to Udyam. UAM certificates are now legally obsolete.
  • EM-Part II Registrants: Businesses registered under the EM-Part II scheme (older system) must also migrate to Udyam to maintain MSME status.
  • Enterprises with Changed Financials: If your annual turnover or investment in plant & machinery has changed (especially if you now fall in a different category), you must update your Udyam profile.
  • Lapsed or Expired Registrations: If benefits were suspended due to non-compliance, re-registration restores your MSME status and benefit eligibility.
  • Change of Business Details: New address, PAN, GSTIN, bank account, or ownership change requires an updated Udyam certificate.
2025 MSME Classification

Updated MSME Investment & Turnover Limits

Union Budget 2024 announced revised MSME thresholds effective April 1, 2025. If your enterprise now falls in a different category under these new limits, you must update your Udyam registration accordingly:

Category Investment (Plant & Machinery) Annual Turnover Change from 2020
Micro ≤ ₹2.5 Crore ≤ ₹10 Crore ↑ Up from ₹1Cr / ₹5Cr
Small ≤ ₹25 Crore ≤ ₹100 Crore ↑ Up from ₹10Cr / ₹50Cr
Medium ≤ ₹125 Crore ≤ ₹500 Crore ↑ Up from ₹50Cr / ₹250Cr

Both criteria must be satisfied simultaneously. If either threshold is exceeded, the enterprise is reclassified upward.

Process Guide

Step-by-Step Re-Registration Process (2025)

  1. Visit the Official Udyam Portal: Go to udyamregistration.gov.in and click "Udyam Re-Registration" for UAM holders.

  3. Fill PAN & Organisation Info: Enter PAN, business name, organisation type, date of commencement, and main business activity.

Instant Certificate Issuance

On successful verification, your new Udyam Certificate with updated URN is generated immediately. Download it from the portal or check your registered email.

Documents

Documents Required for Re-Registration

Re-registration follows a largely paperless, self-declaration process. Keep the following ready:

  • Existing UAM / EM-II Number: 14-digit Udyog Aadhaar number or EM-II registration reference.
  • Aadhaar Card: Owner/proprietor/karta with OTP-linked mobile number for verification.
  • PAN Card: Enterprise PAN (for Companies/LLPs) or proprietor PAN (for individuals).
  • Updated Business Details: Latest annual turnover, investment figures, current address, and bank account information.
  • Old MSME Certificate (Optional): Scan/photo of existing UAM or MSME certificate for upload.
  • GSTIN (if applicable): Enter your 15-digit GSTIN, or "NA" if not registered under GST.
⚠️
Ensure Data Accuracy

The portal auto-verifies turnover and investment via ITR and GST returns. Discrepancies between declared and actual data may cause rejection or registration suspension. Ensure all filings are up to date.

Avoid These Errors

Common Mistakes During Re-Registration

  • Using Wrong Form: Choose "Re-Registration" (for UAM holders) — not "New Registration." Using the wrong option creates a duplicate entry that may be rejected.
  • Missing the Deadline: Procrastinating past April 21, 2025 triggers benefit suspension. Set a calendar reminder today.
  • Data Mismatch: PAN, Aadhaar, and UAM number must exactly match government records. Typos cause immediate failure.
  • Outdated Category: If your turnover/investment has grown, declare the correct updated figures — old numbers may place you in a wrong category.
  • Inactive Aadhaar Mobile: Ensure your Aadhaar-linked mobile is active and can receive OTPs. SIM porting without updating Aadhaar is a common issue.
  • Paying Agents: Re-registration is 100% free on the official portal. Any agent or website charging a fee is unnecessary — avoid fraud.
Policy Updates 2025

Recent MSME Policy Updates & Deadlines

🚨
April 21, 2025 Compliance Deadline

Ministry of MSME has mandated all existing enterprises to update/verify their Udyam certificate. Non-compliance = suspension of all MSME benefits including subsidies, tenders, and legal protections.

  • Budget 2024 — Enhanced MSME Limits: Micro turnover limit raised from ₹5Cr to ₹10Cr; Small from ₹50Cr to ₹100Cr; Medium from ₹250Cr to ₹500Cr. Millions of additional enterprises now qualify as MSMEs.
  • April 2024 — 45-Day Payment Rule (IT Act §43B(h)): Large buyers must clear MSME invoices within 45 days. Delays trigger loss of tax deduction eligibility on those payments.
  • 2023 — Udyam Assist Platform: Launched for informal micro enterprises with relaxed documentation. District Industries Centres (DICs) set up dedicated support counters.
  • December 2021 — Original Migration Deadline: All UAM and EM-II holders required to migrate to Udyam. Many missed this deadline — the portal still accepts re-registrations but benefits remain suspended until updated.
